Thank you @cmd , it seems the problem is still there.  
But is there other ways for me to install FreeFem on my new Linux machine?

Apologies, your issue is different from the one I had pointed to. Yes, you should switch to the develop branch with `git checkout develop` immediately after you clone the repo.
